GiftKhata is a free, open community project built by volunteers to help Indian families track gifts at functions. There is no company, no subscription, no commercial motive.
These terms exist to protect both you and the volunteer contributors from misuse. They are intentionally written in plain language — no dense legal boilerplate.
By using GiftKhata you agree to these terms. The other party is not a company — it is the group of volunteer contributors who built and maintain this app. When these terms say "we" or "us" that's who we mean.
GiftKhata is provided free of charge and "as is" — without any warranty. We're volunteers, not a company with a support team. The app may have bugs, go offline, or be discontinued at any time.
We will do our best to keep it running reliably, guaranteed uptime, data durability, or continued availability. Please keep your own backups of important records (use the Export feature in Settings).
You sign in via Google, Apple, Facebook, or LinkedIn — we never store your password. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in account secure.
One account per person please. Don't create multiple accounts to get around any restrictions.
You must be at least 13 years old to use GiftKhata. If you are under 18, please use it with a parent or guardian's awareness.
Everything you enter — gift records, event details, person names, family tree data — belongs to you. We claim no rights over it.
By using the app you give us permission to store and display your data back to you. That's the only purpose we use it for. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
You can export or delete your data at any time. On account deletion we remove everything within 30 days.
This is a community tool built in good faith. Please don't abuse it:
Misuse will result in account termination. Serious misuse may be reported to the relevant authorities as required under the IT Act, 2000.
We are volunteers, not a company. To the maximum extent permitted by law:
Nothing here limits liability for fraud, gross negligence, or anything that cannot be excluded under Indian law.
The app's code, design, and branding ("GiftKhata") belong to the volunteer contributors. Your data belongs to you. That's it.
The source code may be open-sourced in future — check the project repository for the current licence.
We may update these terms or change / discontinue features at any time. For material changes we'll update the date at the top and notify you in-app where possible. Continued use after changes means you accept them.
If we ever need to shut down the service, we will give as much notice as we can (aiming for at least 30 days) and provide a data export before shutdown.
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute that can't be resolved by talking to us should be referred to mediation before formal proceedings. Courts in India have jurisdiction.
